This was a beauty! Passed it in the Safeway parking lot and had to go back and take a photo.

Here is another old car I spotted near our house. Funny now that I am taking photos of old cars to paint I'm seeing them everywhere! They have such personality!

Black Diamond Trail
oil on canvas, 8" x 10"
$65

I was so lucky today to have the chance to go OUTSIDE and paint with my good friend Patsy Taylor. While Green Bay and the Niners are battling bitter cold, it is a balmy and dry 64 degrees here in the Bay Area. Very dry, in fact this painting in a normal year would feature emerald green hills but as you can see, still the dusty gold of summer. My photo does not really accurately show the color. I will try to take a better one tomorrow in sunlight. It was a fun day and change of pace for me - back to oils!!

Check out Patsy's work here - she is amazing!

My Purple Heaven
watercolor pencil on paper
8" x 8"
$35

Day 2 - This new medium is proving to be quite challenging. However, I LOVE how portable and non-messy it is! This shoe is amazing - there is a consignment store downtown with very high end designer shoes (and clothing), and I spent a good amount of time in there one day taking photos - not sure if they were happy about that or not. Anyway, makes for a fun painting!

I have signed up for a real challenge this month - called "30 in 30" which means I have committed to creating 30 paintings in 30 days during the month of January. Whew! I have to confess I am already behind because January 1 snuck up on me, but here is my first piece, and I will catch up at some point in the month. This is something a little different for me, watercolor pencil. I was inspired during the holidays by an artist I met at the Walnut Creek Artist's Market who uses this medium, Nancy Post Hunter. She is an artist and illustrator and does amazing work!
